PETER Alliss, the voice of golf, has launched his annual Alliss Masters appeal for clubs and players to participate in helping to raise money for bespoke powered wheelchairs.
The event takes place at Old Thorns Golf Club, on Thursday, September 20, where Peter is president. For the first time he is inviting companies to get involved in the charity with a new approach of sponsoring holes, in addition to regular donations.
For £300 businesses get their company signage/logo on a tee at the masters tournament as well as recognition in all printed material, and two gala dinner tickets for the banquet that night with celebrity speakers.
Anyone who would just like to attend the gala dinner can buy a ticket at £55 per head, which includes a welcome drink in the Champagne bar, a four-course meal and some wine.
Peter said: “It is always a great day raising money and made worth while by being able to present these powered wheelchairs, which makes me very proud.
“It’s wonderful to see how they enable children to get about on their own. Every penny we raise goes towards providing chairs to children who need them.”
Between 1975 and 2006, more than £6million was raised by golf clubs and other organisations to buy powered wheelchairs for children across the UK and Ireland.
In 2006, the Peter Alliss Masters PWC crusade gained registered charitable status and implemented a new golf chair scheme under which clubs now buy their chairs for donation.
Americans Lee Trevino and Fuzzy Zoeller were the first high-profile professional golfers to donate PWCs and set a precedent and Spain’s Ryder Cup legend Seve Ballesteros donated 17 alone.
Since 2006 more than £1.5 million has been donated providing more than 470 chairs. By being run entirely by volunteers, expenses remain less than 0.5 per cent of donations.
