CAPED crusaders joined forces with princesses at a dressing up – or down – day at Shottermill Infant School in Lion Lane, Haslemere, and helped to raise a record sum for BBC Children in Need.

“The children love this charity fundraising day, as they can really empathise with the other children who need a helping hand,” head teacher Jilly Storey said.

“They chose to either dress up as a hero or come to school in home clothes. After school we had a cake sale that added £140 to our best total ever of £426.44.”

As reported last week, BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show presenter Chris Evans has managed to get former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney to appear at the last-ever Dine and Disco for Children in Need, in June.

Last week’s auction of tables to hear the former Wings frontman play in the teepee at Evans’ Chiddingfold pub, The Mulberry Inn, raised a whopping £2million.

Acts to have appeared at the village pub in the past include Take That’s Gary Barlow and Tom Jones.

This year’s appeal total stood at a record £37.1million by the end of Friday’s night TV appeal.
