AN eight-strong team teed up in Milford for the Longest Day Golf Challenge 2017 in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Haslemere resident Tom Gleave and his Chiddingfold chums Nathan Eddy, Ben Johnstone, Tom Burdon and David Handley, Witley pal Paul Harrison and Russell Talman from Littlehampton, and Will Jewkes from Basingstoke, aka the West Surrey Hackers, joined more than 3,000 teams across the UK to play 72 holes in just one day, and raise £1.5 million for people affected by cancer.

“We started at 5:15am and finished at 7pm on one of the hottest days of the year,” Tom said. “We all managed to complete it, having carried our bags 25 miles for the full four and having hit around 350 shots each on the West Surrey Golf Club course.

“We would all welcome all donations. We all know someone who has been directly or indirectly affected by the dreaded ‘C word’.

“Great strides have already happened in the discovery of cures but as is always the case, more can still be done. Not just in terms of cures but also support for patients and their families.

“We hope we can raise plenty of money for this very worthwhile cause. Many thanks for all of your support from all of us.”
