A PUBLIC inquiry to determine if controversial plans to hold competitive "high goal" polo matches at Barfold Farm, near Haslemere, will get the green light will be held next month.

But residents opposing the proposals were shocked to discover this week that the borough council would not be defending its original highways objection.

The information was contained in appeal papers posted online by the council.

The move follows an agreement by the appellant with Surrey Highways to pay £7,200 towards maintaining an anti-skid surface on the B2131 Petworth Road next to the proposed access, close to the Lythe Hill Hotel.
