Haslemere Health Centre will be losing one of its longest-serving GPs next month.

Dr Melanie Cant will be retiring on Thursday, May 2 after serving 29 years at the centre.

She trained at Milford & Witley Surgery as a General Practitioner and joined the centre as a GP Partner on February 1, 1995.

Dr Cant said: “It only seems like yesterday, that 29 years ago, I started as a GP at Haslemere Health Centre.

“But I am not so young these days and it's now time for me to seek a quieter life.

“Being able to share the ups and downs of patient's lives has been an amazing privilege and something I feel very humbled by.

“I will never forget this unique opportunity and the impact that you have all had on me.

“I am confident that I leave you in the excellent hands of my colleagues and I thank you all for being part of my life journey and allowing me to be part of yours.

“I will miss you all.”

The centre added in a letter to patients: “Everyone will miss her greatly.

“She has dedicated long hours to her work and has always provided a kind and generous listening ear to her many loyal patients along with the staff and residents at Redcot Care Home.

“Melanie's kindness, energy and positivity has been inspirational to all of us at the Health Centre and we wish her all the very best as she begins her retirement and starts the next chapter in her life.”
