SOUTH Western Railway has promised to improve key information for drivers using the electrical charging sockets at Haslemere Station car park following complaints.

First-time user Dr Ray Bacon complained station staff were unable to help with problems he encountered this month.

He was told they could not help with problems concerning the car park, but he was unable to contact car park company APCOA.

Dr Bacon said: “There’s a huge notice to say charging was free until November 2019.

“But staff couldn’t tell me how to pay now and I was worried I would be fined when I left the car and took the train.

“It also looked as if the ‘live’ sockets were overheating as there is a significant amount of burning around them.

“I asked who was responsible for health and safety and was told no-one at the station was responsible for issues in the car park.”

A South Western Railway spokesperson said: “The spaces remain free until further notice.

“We are chasing up where the passenger information is on this. We will also ensure staff are fully briefed.”
