THE future of traditional red telephone boxes in the Haslemere area hang in the balance this week after BT announced plans to scrap the iconic structures.

Sixteen phone boxes in Haslemere, Chiddingfold, Hambledon, Hindhead, Wormley and Witley have been earmarked for the axe – and a total of 46 boxes in Waverley borough are thought to be in danger.
