THE Farnham Festival organising committee are now able to provide more details for the visit of HRH The Countess of Wessex GCVO to this year’s Farnham Festival – New Music For Young People at the Farnham Maltings.

Her Royal Highness will be attending the You Raise Me Up concert at 5pm on Tuesday, March 20 at which The Ridgeway Community and Abbey Schools will be teaming up with Luminosa Young Voices and Farnham Junior Youth Choir.

The performance and new music opportunities which the festival has been able to offer local young people this year, in an incredibly diverse programme of six concerts, is due in no small part to the overwhelmingly support of local community organisations namely - Marshall Eaton Holdings, Farnham Town Council and The Farnham Institute Charity.

Their generosity has ensured that an increasing number of young people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds can take part, and ticket prices can remain free for under 16s (booking required) with a very nominal charge made for all other tickets.

The festival concert programme also includes jazz, choral and orchestral performances which will feature new work commissioned especially for the young musicians taking part.

Children from local infant schools kick off the festival on Monday, March 19 with their Wild World concert. Local junior schools will take centre stage later on March 19, and on the evening of Tuesday, March 20, with a performance of Along Came Man; a thought provoking cantata on an ecological theme.

The Exposition and Recapitulation Concert; an exciting evening of old and new choral and orchestral music is being performed by young musicians and choirs on Wednesday, March 21.

The festival closes with an evening of jazz on Thursday, March 22 at which local schools, colleges and groups will showcase their favourite pieces.

The young people taking part in all the festival events have worked so hard for many months they now deserve an audience!

Tickets available from Farnham Maltings Box Office.
