With August behind us, there is activity to report in Farnham town centre...
Hoops Velo, currently in Seven Stars House in East Street, are moving to Unit E on the Grovebell Industrial Estate in Wrecclesham.
Their new premises is next door to Brewers, or what used to be Cane Adams. Hoops Velo plan to vacate their current premises at the end of September and reopen a week or so into October.
The Alfred Freehouse, currently trading from The Alfred Freehouse pub in Upper Hale, has submitted a planning application for change of use of the former Ruby La La shop at the Bailiffs Hall, in The Town Hall Buildings, to a Public House (sui generis) use.
Reading the documentation posted on the Waverley website the plan is to focus on craft beers from British and International independent brewers and offer a small range of sandwiches, ploughman’s lunches and pork pies to support the drink offerings, but no hot food.
There is interest in the former Alan Greenwood & Sons shop at 72 Castle Street from a charitable organisation without any current presence in Farnham. More details to follow.
Lion & Lamb Yard
Clothing retailers are taking a strong interest in units in Lion & Lamb Yard. The former Orvis shop at number 12 is under offer to a national clothing retailing company, and strong interest has been expressed in the former Joules shop by an outdoor clothing store who are weighing up opportunities in Guildford and the Lion & Lamb Yard in Farnham.
Furthermore, there is another American-based clothing retailer looking at both the former Joules shop and the shop currently occupied by Luxury Faux Flowers.
Looking through the agents’ websites while drafting this article I was surprised and very disappointed to discover that the Coffee Diem shop is available to let.
I spoke to George Murray, the café owner, having seen the shop on the website and he told me that “the lease had come up for renewal and he and his wife needed time to pursue other interests in the future”.
A sad loss to the yard and Farnham as a whole. The good news is that there is strong interest in the shop unit. Watch this space.
