FARNHAM Park has been named the top UK park for water sports in a study.

The research by golfsupport.com was collated through an ordnance survey data involving waterline counts, perimeter and area.

A spokesperson confirmed depth data was not available for survey, with the park “ranked higher than perhaps it should have”.

It comes after Farnham was ranked the top most cultural spot in the UK in a diys.com survey, with the town receiving praise for its Michelin star restaurants – which was soon ridiculed by residents.

A spokesperson for Waverley Borough Council said: “While we’re happy to take any accolades we receive for the great work we do in managing this beautiful medieval deer park, we’re a little bit bemused about Farnham Park being recognised for watersports.

"The Grade 2 listed Historic Park and Garden has achieved Green Flag status for 4 years running and is a Site of Nature Conservation Importance, an area of Historic Landscape Value and a Local Nature Reserve. But in in order to protect the local wildlife, all watersports are prohibited.

“By all means, visit the beautiful and historic Farnham Park – just remember to leave the paddleboard at home.”
