A Haslemere family is holding a charity football tournament today (Sunday) in memory of Zak Combe.

Jason, Juliet and Harry Combe are organising the 2022 Zak Combe Cup at Haslemere Recreation Ground. The annual event had to be postponed in 2020 and 2021 because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The tournament is being held in memory of Zak, who died in a crash on the A3 in June 2017. All proceeds from the event will go towards Brake, the road safety charity – a cause close to the family’s heart.

Brake’s work includes providing support services for families who are devastated by death or injury on roads, and campaigning to prevent casualties and make communities safer.

Jason Combe, Zak’s father, said: “Brake has helped my family after the devastation of the death of our beautiful son Zak aged 21 in a road traffic collision.

“Learning from Brake about the help and support they offer, together with the number of tragic fatalities and crashes that happen every day on our roads, made me realise the important work Brake do for so many broken grieving families like my own.”

There will be more than 100 football players taking part in the cup. The cricket pavilion will be open with a full bar, DJ and food, and there will be raffle prizes.

Jason said: “It’s an amazing day to remember our beautiful son Zak. Everyone is more than welcome to attend our special day.”
