TEAM GB’s Alex Danson, who helped the women’s hockey team win their first Olympic gold medal in Rio last summer, paid a visit to Midhurst Rother College.

Alex, who came complete with her Rio medal, spent the day motivating girls to participate in sport, and showing them how to develop winning habits and build the mental agility it takes to be a champion.

During a whole college assembly she talked about her own life, her achievements and her drive to be successful in everything she does.

“Anything is possible if you really want to achieve it and are prepared to work hard at it,” she told students.

“I overcame rejection several times as a young player, being deemed too small for the sport, but my determination has been rewarded with an Olympic title.”

Alex concluded her inspirational visit with a practical masterclass, during which she passed on a variety of skills and drills to staff and students.

MRC director of sport and performance Simon Hills said: “It was a memorable visit from a brilliant and engaging athlete, who is at the very top of her game. She is a true inspiration to our students.”
