ACTRESS and cat lover Dame Penelope Keith will officially reopen Haslemere Cats Protection adoption centre in two weeks’ time.

The centre is holding a grand opening and family fun day to celebrate the newly refurbished centre between 10am-4pm, on Saturday October 8. The Good Life star will perform the official ceremony at noon.

The Cats Protection League set up its first centre on the same site in Upper Hammer Lane, in 1950.

The adoption centre has helped thousands of cats over the years.

But the old wooden pens were falling into disrepair and the centre has been modernised with new pens.

On average it homes 600 plus cats and kittens a year.

The fun day will feature a barbecue, live music, ferret racing and animals from Hydestyle wildlife rescue, with children’s games and an entertainer, plus a raffle, tombolas and craft stall, plus a chance to meet some of the cats.
