A “GREEN” racing car was built by a team of 14 students from Midhurst Rother College, who took it to Rockingham Motor Circuit in Leicestershire for the Greenpower International Finals.
The team overcame major engineering issues – a new gear box was so powerful it catapulted the car around the track, causing the motor to overheat. It meant they had to withdraw from the racing on day one.
But after a long night of work in the engine shed, the team put the car back on the road ready for the following day’s racing.
They finished 51st out of 76 teams, five places higher than in 2014.
This partnership with Children and Young People’s Services at West Sussex County Council came to an end in 2015.
A college spokesman said: “But the students have decided to embark on an independent project and have already started designing and building their car for this year’s competition.”
