GETTING ready for some ghoulish fun at Haslemere Museum over the half-term holiday, organisers are ready with some Hallowe’en happenings and spooky scares.
On Friday, October 28, children are invited to dress up in their scariest costumes and enjoy creepy crafts and bring their own pumpkins for carving. From 1-4.30pm, families can get in the spirit getting ready for the Hallowe’en procession through the town, which leaves the museum at 4.30pm.
The Witches Tea Room will be open for some “fang-tastic” food and drink, organised with the Visitor Information Centre.
There will be more scary happenings at the museum on the night of Saturday, October 29, when it throws open its doors to welcome visitors for an exclusive evening event as part of the Museums at Night celebrations. Visitors can explore galleries by torch light to help discover wonderful artefacts along with some spooky surprises in store.
There’s drinks and popcorn before settling down to watch a special screening of the classic comedy film One of our Dinosaurs is Missing. Tickets are £5 for museum members and £6 for non-members and need to be booked in advance.
Earlier in the week the Museum Explorers will meet on Tuesday, October 24, and Thursday, October 26. Workshops provide a great way for young visitors to discover all the fantastic resources the museum has to offer.
Held once a month on Saturdays throughout the year and during the school holidays young explorers can enjoy a variety of subjects and activities based around the museum’s collections, exhibitions and seasonal or national events. The sessions run from 10.30am-12pm and are suitable for children aged 5-11years and without parents if preferred. Booking is advisable.
The museum will be open all week at half-term so young visitors can enjoy quizzes and trails available each day and there are backpacks full of fun activities for children to do while exploring the galleries.
Look out for the special Hallowe’en gallery trail too. There is a lively programme of events all-year round providing inspiration and enjoyment for all the family and vital funds for the museum.
Family membership is available offering an exclusive range of benefits, including generous discounts on family workshops and events, and 10 per cent off on all purchases in the shop plus much more. For details visit www.haslemeremuseum.co.uk
