OUTSTANDING achievers were recognised at Sport Haslemere awards evening at the end of last month.

More than 100 guests applauded as 11 awards were presented at Haslemere Hall by Sport Haslemere president Melanie Odell, following an introduction by chairman Chris Grimes, who is also chairman of Haslemere Sports Association.

The award winners were:

Sporting Impact in Schools – Haslemere Tennis Club Volunteer Group

Sports Team of the Year – Grayswood Cricket Club 1st XI

Junior Sports Team of the Year – Grayshott Football Club under 12s

Sports Award for the Disabled – Tessa Watkiss from Frensham Sailability

Young Coach of the Year – Raveen Sriharan from Grayshott Cricket Club

Sports Coach of the Year – Duncan Willows from Grayshott Cricket Club

Sport Initiative – Stephen Marshall from Hindhead Cricket Club

Sports Club of the Year – Grayshott Tennis Club

Junior Sports Personality – Jake and Johnny Thompson from Frensham Sailabilty

Special Services to Sport – Steve Benbough from Chiddingfold Cricket Club

Sports Personality of the Year – Chris Shipley from Borders Athletic Club

Mr Grimes also named the 10 young athletes that will receive bursaries of £500 each to help them achieve their potential in the Create a Star Awards: Georgia Statham, Luke van Oudtshoorn, Jake Thompson, Alistair Wheble, Cerys McIntosh, Alex Cant, Ross Thompson, Rebecca Swift, Johnny Thompson and George Houghton.

A welcome was also given by Waverley Mayor Denise le Gal and Haslemere Mayor David Round.
