HASLEMERE have-a-go heroes town clerk Mike ONeil and an ex-police officer (who requested to be named only as Paul) tried to stop a shoplifter and a driver as they drove across the High Street car park on Monday, narrowly missing parked and moving vehicles in their bid to escape.

A young man was being chased by Boots store manager Karen Alexander as he ran towards a silver hatchback in the car park, at about 2.25pm.
