A CALL has gone out to join the hunt for a much-loved Grayswood pet – who ambled off on May 26 and has not been seen since.

Emily the tortoise may be aged over 80 but she is a thrill seeker and a previous escapade in 2004 was also reported in the Haslemere Herald.

On that occasion, she ascended the precipitous railway embankment by the bridge next to her home on Grayswood Road and was found by a Network Rail contractor, who took her to Haslemere station to be reunited with her owner Jo Jenvey.

Emily, who is micro-chipped, used a Houdini-like manoeuvre to escape.

Mrs Jenvey said: “She must have got out on her side. She went through a tiny gap. She has been with us for nearly 50 years and was more than 30 when she came. Tortoises are very vulnerable creatures and she’s such an old lady. I just want her back.”

If you spot Emily, please call 01428 642134.
