HASLEMERE mayor Cllr Simon Dear planted an oak tree on St Christopher’s Green on Holocaust Memorial Day last Thursday (January 27).
The event was arranged by the The Association of Jewish Refugees (AJR) as part of its ‘80 Trees for 80 Years’ anniversary project.
Haslemere is one of only 80 UK locations to receive a memorial tree from the AJR in recognition of the work done at refugee school Stoatley Rough on Farnham Lane.
The tree at St Christopher’s Green will act as a platform for telling the story of Britain’s Jewish refugees and celebrating their contribution to British life.
