A SPECTACULAR ‘Poppy Lawn’ at Grayshott War Memorial is planned in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the ending of WWI in November.
Grayshott Pottery is supporting The Royal British Legion and marking this year’s First World War centenary by designing handcrafted ceramic poppies.
It is donating 200 to Grayshott Parish Council to create a display in the memorial garden in the village.
The parish council will be raising money for the Royal British Legion through sponsorship of these poppies.
The team has also made the special edition ceramic garden poppies available to anyone who may want to mark the event, with £5 from every sale being donated to the charity.
Managing director, Glenn Myers said: “We’re proud to be supporting a great charity like the Royal British Legion.
“This is such an important cause and the work the Royal British Legion does to support current and ex-service personnel is beyond inspiring.
“We’re glad to be giving back and hope the community will get behind us to help raise money for the charity.”
So keen were staff to join the commemorations, they offered to produce the poppies in their own time. They are placed on metal stakes so they can be ‘planted’ more easily in the ground.
Of the 200 poppies, 30 will be put on a board supplied by James Condie, to represent the 30 men from WWI named on Grayshott’s War Memorial.
The other 170 will be available for people to sponsor for a minimum of £20 and 100 per cent of all contributions will be given to the legion’s Grayshott branch.
In order to protect the display, Andy Clague, from Trusted PC Man, has offered to provide, and install, CCTV equipment, with Bryanston Electrical installing the power supply.
Parish council chairman John Frankcom said: “We wanted to recognise this important anniversary in some way and have the wonderful resource of Grayshott Pottery on our doorstep. We hoped we could work in conjunction with them and are delighted with the results.
