PLANS to build eight new homes on the old Devil's Punch Bowl petrol station have been sent back to the drawing board.

Members of Waverley's southern planning committee threw out the application by Linden Homes at their last meeting as an inadequate design for a prominent site next to the newly restored Devil's Punch Bowl.

Councillors agreed the scheme for a terrace divided into two equal parts and rising to two-and-a-half storeys was uninspiring and overbearing.
