WEEKLY visits by puppy Pippa to a care home in Hindhead have proved to be a big tonic.
The six-month-old chihuahua has visited the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution Home Shannon Court every week over the past four months.
She has had a profound effect on the health and wellbeing of residents, according to staff.
Pippa visits with her owner Cilla Parrott, who works as a carer at the home, and she goes from room to room so residents can spend time with her.
Her visits also help spark conversation and reminiscences from those with dementia.
Sam Geddes, the activities co-ordinator at Shannon Court, said: “Pippa’s visits mean the world to our residents.
“She puts a smile on everyone’s faces and she loves all the fuss as much as our residents.
“The effect of her regular visits on our residents’ mental health and wellbeing is quite profound.
“Cilla brings Pippa to visit on her day off, which is especially kind.”
Cilla said: “It’s really lovely to be able to bring Pippa to spend time with the residents.
“It’s very satisfying to see the uplifting effect she has on
everyone.
“She’s a very sweet-natured, sociable little pup and really enjoys the attention.”
