A MAJOR power cut affected more than 4,000 residents of Haslemere, Liphook and surrounding villages, on Monday night.

A fault on part of the overhead Scottish and Southern Electricity network caused the problem at 6.15pm, which affected 4,254 customers, who were left without electricity for almost two hours.

An SSE spokesman said: “By 7.45pm, our engineers had restored supplies to all but 509 customers by re-routing supplies to different parts of the network – and alll those customers were back on by 8.30pm.

“We would like to apologise to our customers who were affected by the power cut and assure everyone our engineers did everything they could to get all supplies back on as safely and as quickly as possible,” he added.
