A GROUP of pupils from King Edward’s have been congratulated after an incredible walk from London back to their school in Witley
Walking through the night and almost 20 hours later, the 10 sixth formers completed the challenging journey from Southwark Cathedral to Witley.
The journey was a symbolic reminder of the School’s move from Southwark to the Surrey Hills 150 years ago this year.
While their fellow pupils returned to Witley via the luxury of coach travel following the school’s anniversary service at Southwark Cathedral, the pupils made the 51-mile journey in 19 hours and 51 minutes on foot.
In total, they raised more £3,600 for Bridewell Royal Hospital, King Edward’s Witley’s parent foundation, which provides bursaries for disadvantaged students to attend the well-known Surrey school.
Accompanied by eight members of staff, the pupils left London at 3pm arriving back in Witley to a hero’s welcome.
The efforts of the pupils (pictuerd ) were commended by headmaster John Attwater who said: “We are extremely proud of the pupils who dreamt up this challenge for themselves and the incredible feat of endurance that it represents.
