Haslemere Round Table is sadly no more – but it has left a generous legacy to local charities.

Former members, who now meet monthly as the 41 Club, took responsibility for disposing of the table’s assets – amounting to more than £15,000.

Club chairman Paul Avery and members were delighted to distribute the funds to a host of charities and good causes with local connections.

Three key organisations – Haslemere’s Hunter Centre supporting those with dementia, Haslemere-founded Pancreatic Cancer Action and the Stokes Centre for Urology at Royal Surrey County Hospital – each received £3,200.

Club member Ed Jenner said: “The Hunter Centre is an excellent facility that supports the local and wider community with dementia day care.

“Pancreatic Cancer Action has been supported by Haslemere Round Table and its 41 Club for more than a decade.

“Ali Stunt, a local pancreatic survivor, is chief executive. She created the charity ten years ago and it is now known nationally for its work in facilitating a real improvement in survival rates.

“The Stokes Centre is one of the most significant investments in urological services in UK for more than a decade and is the largest centre for brachytherapy in Europe. It is a major centre for the treatment of prostate cancer for Surrey, West Sussex and Hampshire.

“In addition, six donations of £1,000 were made to Shooting Star children’s hospices; Haslemere Macmillan Cancer Support; Rosemary Foundation hospice at home service; Haslemere Museum Dementia Project; Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and Liphook Community Laundry. We hope these donations will inspire others to support these charities. ”
