A RECORD £4,200 was raised for Haslemere’s Holy Cross Hospital thanks to more than 600 supporters taking part in the 21st Boxing Day Run at Hindhead.

Over the years, money raised by the run has been put toward a variety of projects at the specialist hospital for people with complex medical needs. Most recently, piped oxygen and suction were installed in patients’ rooms.

Town organiser Matt Dellar said: “The first run was held in 1997 and has become something of a tradition for many families. It also attracts serious runners who want to keep up their training during the festive season.

“We have always donated the proceeds of the run to Holy Cross Hospital and are delighted to continue to support this very worthwhile and local charity that constantly pushes the boundaries of recovery for its patients. I would like to thank the runners and the sponsors as it is through their support that we were able to donate such a large sum.”

Dr Ross White, chief executive at Holy Cross Hospital, said: “My thanks go to Matt Dellar for organising another wonderful event. To receive over £4,000 is a tremendous result and both myself and the Friends of Holy Cross are thrilled.”
