HASLEMERE is flying the flag for Independents' Day - a national retail campaign to boost local trade being held on July 4, coinciding with the USA's Independence Day celebrations.

On Thursday, July 4, across the country, the public will be encouraged to buy at least one item from their local, independent shop to celebrate Independents' Day 2013.

The national campaign organised by the National Skills Academy for Retail, champions local retailers who make the UK's villages, towns and cities special. It is fighting back against the downturn caused by the recession, high town centre business rates and the online shopping trend.
