THE Grayshott Society donated a memorial hardwood bench, sited next to the Cenotaph at St Joseph's Church, in Grayshott.

And on Remembrance Sunday a blessing and dedication of the bench was performed; those present included members of the Grayshott Royal British Legion.

The bench is in remembrance and dedicated to the Canadian servicemen who trained at Bramshott Camp and died during the First and Second World Wars.

There are 95 servicemen buried at St Joseph's and

the memorial bench is positioned to overlook the headstones.

Money for the bench was raised through sponsorship by Phil Bates, vice chairman of The Grayshott Society who took part in the recent 'Grayshott Boundary Walk' – a 12-kilometre sponsored walk around the village.

Mr Bates said: "The Grayshott Society was very pleased to take on this deserving initiative and I was personally pleased to take an active role in raising the funds, of nearly £600, for the cost of the bench, the plaque and fixing costs."

Mr Bates went on to say he would like to take the opportunity to give a big thank you to all the individuals who sponsored him and to The Grayshott Social Club who raised £100 from their members.
