A HASLEMERE dance group tapped their way to victory once again at Chichester Festival.

It was the fourth time Haslemere Performing Arts Adult Tap group have triumphed and members also turns up trumps at HPA’s annual show.

Sheila Johnston, who teaches the group with Tracey Kirby, said: “We were really pleased to win this year as the competition was tougher than previously.

“We were also very pleased with the feedback from the judge, which recognised the commitment and technique of all the dancers resulting in a very well planned performance.

‘This was high praise indeed. We got one of the highest marks for a group dance. The tappers get together on Monday evenings and we have a range of abilities from beginners to quite advanced and a wide range of ages from early 20s to over 50s.

“I also do the majority of the choreography for the festival dances, which this year had a tango theme.

“I have been running the group for more than six years now. We do the festival every year and have won four times out of the last six.

“We could not have won without all the effort that everyone put in with extra rehearsals and sorting out costumes.”
