TALENTED young musicians struck a chord with their audience at Woolmer Hill School, Haslemere, last Thursday.

Haslemere primary school students struck up for the annual Woolmer Hill Orchestra Day and Young Musician of the Year Competition, which is now in its 16th year.

Haslemere county councillor Nikki Barton once again sponsored the event, which was also attended by town mayor Sharan Abeysundara.

Mrs Barton said: “I am delighted to support again the Woolmer Hill Orchestra Day and Young Musician of the Year competition.

“The events bring together pupils of all ages, to celebrate the joy of music in our community.

“We have so many extremely talented young musicians attending our Haslemere schools, supported by a fantastic team of highly committed teachers.”

More than 80 primary school pupils rehearsed during the day at Woolmer Hill, before the evening concert culminated in a resounding performance of the James Bond theme by the combined orchestra.

Judges agreed the standard of the Woolmer Hill Young Musician of the Year competition was “exceptionally high”.

Year nine student Robin won junior solo for his guitar playing, year 11 students Rosie and Alix won open ensemble for their duet, Anastasia in year 10 won senior solo for her piano playing and Amy won the Pite Trophy for representing the school with numerous excellent performances.
