THE final new footbridge over the A3 near Hindhead was due to open today.

Schoolchildren from five local schools – Amesbury, Beacon Hill Primary, Camelsdale Primary, Haslemere Prep and St Ives – will plant trees and shrubs on and around the new Miss James Bridge before it is officially opened by David Kennington from the National Trust.

The bridge is part of the £371m scheme being carried out on the A3 by the Highways Agency, which includes the Hindhead

tunnel.
