CAMPAIGNERS are welcoming the news that Undershaw has gone back on the market.
Boards advertising the property as 'For sale – to let' have gone up outside the Hindhead house under new London agents Aequitas Property, based near Fleet Street.
The former home of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was at the centre of a High Court battle last year when campaigner John Gibson successfully overturned planning permission given by Waverley Borough Council.
Waverley gave planning permission to owners Fossway to develop it into apartments, although it had promised to preserve important parts of the building.
Since that was quashed, its planning status reverts to its former use as a hotel. But consent for residential use was also given by Waverley shortly after the Fossway bid.
Undershaw Preservation Trust co-founder Lynn Gale said "It now gives someone the opportunity to have Undershaw restored."
