Localism group Haslemere Vision hopes to form a community land trust (CLT) to provide more affordable homes and build starter units offering jobs and services.
The group is holding a public meeting at the end of this month to get backing to set up a community-based organisation to develop and manage homes and other assets for the long-term benefit of residents.
More than 170 CLTs have already been set up around the country, and at the meeting, an expert from the National Community Land Trust Association will explain what is involved and what can be achieved.
Haslemere Vision chairman Stewart Brown said: “As well as seeking further support for the idea of setting up a CLT we will be seeking volunteers to join a steering group to take the idea forward, so any local resident who is interested is urged to come along and get involved. It’s our town and they’re our villages and so it’s up to us.”
Thee meeting takes place at Haslemere Museum on Wednesday, June 29, at 8pm.
