HASLEMERE’S churches reunite once again next week, to stage their popular annual Wave Week at Lion Green.
The grand finale to an action-packed programme is a family fun event on Friday July 29, from 2.30-4.30pm with activities including hook-a-duck, penalty shoot-outs water games and inflatables.
The cafe will be open and hundreds of burgers and sausages will be served up in a free barbecue.
From Monday, July 25, until Thursday July 28, the cafe will be open between 1.30pm and 5pm and between 2.30pm and 4pm there will be story time with songs and play activities for the fours and under. The cafe reopens from 7.30-9.30pm when there will be free entertainment.
Evening entertainments include a folk night on Monday, a ’Bake Off’ on Tuesday, a quiz on Wednesday, and a barn dance on Thursday.
‘Bake off’ entrants can submit signature cupcakes, a tray bake or a show-stopper celebration cake. Prizes will be awarded to children under 16 and adults for each category. There will be a bonus prize for the people’s choice and most Fairtrade ingredients used.
For the first four days Wave teams will also be keeping around 100 children entertained in the afternoons at Rock Star Children’s Holiday Club, encouraging them to follow their dreams. Between 2pm and 4pm there will be organised football for teenagers at High Lane recreation ground.
During the mornings, Wave crews will work in community buildings and the homes of needy local residents, unable to manage their gardens or do small jobs around their house. Organiser Jon Noble, of 3 Counties Church, said: “The Wave Week is all about showing God’s love and care for people in tangible ways.
“This can be through helping those in need with practical things they cannot do or blessing them with opportunities for fun and relaxation.”
