ST IVES School in Haslemere joined thousands of other children across the country to help raise funds for last Friday's annual Children In Need appeal.

During the course of the week the girls (pictured) were asked to collect coins for the cause, then each girl had to place her coins on 20-inch strips of masking tape, with each girl filling a strip.

At break time on Friday, everyone gathered on the tennis court to lay the strips out.

Headteacher Lesley Shaikh used the exercise as a creative maths and problem-solving exercise too, asking the older girls to estimate both distance of the strips and total value of the coins, which came to £132.80.
