BASINGSTOKE II 2, ALDERSHOT & FARNHAM 2

ALDERSHOT & Farnham continued to seek that elusive first win after starting the Hampshire 2 season with three consecutive draws.

Lining up in a 4-4-2 formation, A&F looked fairly solid at the back and distributed the ball well from midfield. But although they dominated possession, the visitors couldn’t find that final pass and their attacks lacked real penetration.

Then, out of nowhere, Basingstoke hit them on the break to snatch the lead and it remained 1-0 at the break.

A&F switched to 4-3-3 for the second half, only to concede a second goal from a short corner.

However, Aldershot were looking much better with the new formation and a comeback was on the cards.

A nice transfer round the back led to a slick move down the right, a ball into the D and a reverse hit from Jonny Groves into the bottom right corner.

A more confident A&F were now playing with pace in their build-ups, but it was still 2-1 with just two minutes to go.

Then a nice tackle and neat ball from man-of-the-match Jamie Strachan gave George Rooke space to turn and deliver a precise through-pass for Jackson Brown to finish tidily and salvage a valuable point for Aldershot & Farnham.
