HASLEMERE Border Athletic Club presented the annual awards for the club’s Grand Prix last Thursday.
The Grand Prix is run to encourage members to compete in a number of selected races, helping to create healthy competition and promote the many positive benefits of the club.
Successful athletes are rewarded with GP mugs and the ladies’ and men’s overall winners also receive a GP t-shirt.
A minimum of six events have to be completed, with the six highest scoring events counting for an individual’s score.
This year’s Grand Prix winners were Phil Bennett for the ladies with 207 points and Marco De Caprio for the men with 229 points.
Other mug winners were: Ladies – Alex Croucher 172, Ann Varnes 169, Tina Laing 167, Donna Read 148, Ann Marie Greenway 145, Karen Dixon 134, Rosie Dyke 133, Liza Blayden 129, Caroline Searle 118, Lorraine Herring 103, Anne Kettle 99, Patsy Petersen 98, Debby Parry 86.

Jules Dellar administered the Grand Prix (her final year) and Dave Card organised the mugs and t-shirts.
The Coaches’ Cup, awarded at the club’s recent AGM, goes to someone striving to push themselves and the club forward as a team.
This year’s winner was Debbie Parry who only took up running last year after attending head coach Daniel Allaway’s ‘Couch to 5k’ group.
After completing the course, Debbie joined Haslemere Border and has never looked back.
Coach Sarah Barnett said: “Debbie has constantly motivated, inspired and encouraged others to compete and enter races and her personal and positive attitude has earned her much respect within the club and amongst her fellow athletes.”
