TOM Dillmann and Sean Gelael, racing for the Farngam-based Jagonya Ayam with Carlin’s team, rounded off the 2015 Formula Renault 3.5 season with a double points finish at Jerez.

In a hard-fought race, including two safety car periods and multiple strong overtakes, Dillmann and Gelael finished sixth and ninth respectively.

Dillmann and Gelael lined up eighth and 13th on the grid following qualifying earlier in the day and after the formation lap, both drivers had a great getaway as they fought for position over the first lap.

Gelael, in particular, made early tracks and the young Indonesian had already gained three places after lap one. However, his progress was halted when the safety car was deployed.

Gelael eventually continued his excellent drive to move up to ninth position, right behind Dillmann. The pair continued to run in formation over the next few laps before the pit-stop window opened, enabling the teams to change to new rubber.

With everyone having pitted, it was soon clear that the order had changed again and Dillmann and Gelael had both benefited, now lying sixth and seventh.

Then the race was neutralised again as the stricken car of Roy Nissany was removed from the circuit.

On the restart, with the cars bunched back together, Gelael’s hard work began to come undone as a fast-starting Jazeman Jaafar and Igor Orudzhev found a way past. Dillmann finished an impressive fifth and the in-form Gelael gained points for ninth.
