FRENSHAM Sailing Club’s Nick Craig has made history by winning his fifth world title in the single-handed OK Dinghy class.
The 2017 OK Dinghy World Championships were staged in Barbados in hot, humid conditions and shifting breezes.
He reeled off six straight wins and two second places and was able to discard a third place.
Although given a good contest by another UK helm, Jim Hunt, the Frensham man could not be beaten in this fleet of 79 entries.
This was perhaps his most convincing win and probably the sweetest yet as he became the first person in the 60-year history of the class to win five world titles.
The OK is a fast and tricky to handle single-handed racing dinghy and has been popular all over the world.
Many other Frensham helms have raced the OK and the boat was the preferred helm of the late King Bhumibol of Thailand, a good friend of Frensham who won the Asian championships in this craft.
