Farnham’s second team started their season with an eight-wicket defeat at home to Beddington.

Farnham lost the toss and were asked to bat first. New second-team captain Daniel Wakely (eight) and youngster Sonny Temple-Hall (three) set about seeing off the new ball, but scoring proved difficult.

New recruit Ben Greenstreet and Kasun Sumanasekera (13) began to up the scoring rate, with Greenstreet showing excellent intent and control before overbalancing on a sweep shot and being smartly stumped by Beddington keeper Scott Dance for 23.

Farnham’s remaining batters grafted and battled hard, but the hosts were bowled out for 97 after 48 overs.

Farnham opening bowlers Sumanasekera and Charlie Hooker found assistance when they hit the right lengths, but the much-needed early breakthrough didn’t arrive.

Alec Goldsworthy eventually removed both openers, but Simon Lewis (38 not out) hit a mighty six halfway up a tree to seal Beddington’s win.
