CRICKETERS from a thriving Southern Premier League side have been rewarded for a successful season – on the club’s 150th anniversary.

The occasion was the annual awards night for Alton Cricket Club, which was held at the Alton House Hotel.

And just 24 hours after the various silverware had been despatched to the various worthy recipients, Alton wrapped up their season with a thrilling win over Bashley in the final of the T20 Cup on a rainy night at the Ageas Bowl.

The biggest winner on the night was Alton opener Ryan Covey, who was named players’ player of the year and first team player of the year after a good season at the top of the order for the town side who preserved their status in the Premier Division of the Southern Premier League.

Other awards went to the players topping the batting and bowling charts for Alton’s four men’s and one female team.

And Richard Myers picked up a special award during the awards ceremony to mark the milestone season as he scooped the Keith Gillingham award for contributions to the club.
