A SUPERB partnership between Toby Davies and James Berry helped Farnham to a crushing victory over the I’Anson Representative XI on Sunday.
With only ten men due to a late withdrawal (no 12th man), I’Anson skipper Dave Handley elected to bowl first and Iain Jackson made an early breakthrough.
But Davies was in control from the start. Ciaran Rooney was out to the first ball of spin and Peter Hundley bowled Russ Golding, but Davies continued his merry way and had already reached 50 when he was joined by Berry.
Their brilliant stand saw up the 200 and only ended when George Ellis bowled Berry for a fine 80. Davies was there for the duration and was 132 not out as Farnham closed on 243-7 from their 40 overs.
The I’Anson’s depleted side needed a racing start, but Rob Goldsworthy – fresh from his five-for at Guildford the day before – and Berry dismantled the top five within 12 overs. First-change Marc Lewis turned the screw and only a captain’s innings by Handley spared the visitors’ blushes. He hit a boundary-laden 58 not out and the visitors were bowled out for 133.
