FARNHAM Unihockey and Floorball Club hosted the TCL Youth League on Sunday, with teams coming from as far away as London and Oxford to take part.

The day started badly with confusion over whether the sports hall had been booked, but Farnham’s good preparation was rewarded as both teams won all their matches.

The Fireballs beat the formidable Basingstoke Phoenix side 2-0. Farnham finally broke down a strong defence with an unassisted goal from Sam Dring and a slick combination between Alex Smith and Fred Wenban.

Next up was London Capitals, comprising ice hockey players from several clubs.

It was the Capitals’ first ever floorball league matches and although they had the physical approach typical of ice hockey, they also showed great vision and shooting.

The Fireballs were dominant, however, and won 4-1. Their defence kept out all but one shot under the stewardship of the experienced Ben Grafham – the only goal scored against Farnham all day.

Farnham Shooting Stars showed what they can do as they won their matches 8-2, 6-2 and 5-1 and were as impressive as the scores suggest.

Fireballs, the unbeaten league leaders, are now focussing on the world’s biggest floorball tournament, with 700 teams due to take part in Sweden in January.

The Farnham club will welcome new players. Visit the website (www.fufc.net) for information.
