THIRTY-FIVE Farnham Runners entered the Alton 10-Mile Race, one of the Hampshire Road Race League events.

The ladies A and B strings consolidated their positions in the top divisions, while the men’s A and B teams remain first in their respective second divisions.

Andrew Ellison clocked 1hr 3mins 24secs for an excellent 20th overall and second place in the M50 category.

The close-packed trio of Matt Saker, 24th in 1-03-43, James Clarke, 26th in 1-04-00 and Rob Gilchrist, 27th in 1-04-03, helped the A team to a score of 82, the third best overall.

Stuart Haig headed the victorious B string in 1-06-38, followed by Harvey Wickham (1-08-29), Colin Addison (1-10-16) and Mike Taylor (1-10-47). In second place, showing the club’s strength in depth, were the C team of Ali Hardaway (1-12-20), Richard Frost (1-12-34), John Phillips (1-15-46, 4th M60) and Keith Marshall (1-16-00).

A jubilant Linda Tyler led in the Farnham ladies for the first time. Racing for the sixth time in seven weeks, she claimed victory in the F55 category with 1-18-12. Eloise Stradling (1-20-47)and Kayleigh Copeland (1-22-36) helped the A team to eighth, keeping them eighth out of ten and well above the bottom two.

Anne Snelson (1-25-41), Sarah McCulloch (1-27-32) and Kay Copeland (1-31-37) gave the B string a fine fourth. After a lay-off, Jane Georghiou was pleased to head the Cs in 1-31-59 for second place in the F65 group. New member Vicky Goodluck and Pauline Hamilton both recorded 1-35-43 to give the C team second spot out of 17.

• Emma Pearson won the ladies’ race in the Woodland Woggle 10km.

• James Warren came sixth (1st M40-49) in the South Downs Way 50-mile race in 7hrs 49mins.
