HARTLEY WINTNEY 2, BADSHOT LEA 2
A NOTABLE draw at Hartley Wintney – well on the way to retaining the Combined Counties League title – could mark a turning-point in Badshot Lea’s season.
The Baggies looked to be out of the game at half-time, trailing 2-0, but Michael Charles’ side showed their new-found grit as they hauled the runaway leaders back to 2-2, and even had chances to win the Tuesday bank holiday fixture.
The prolific Sam Argent scored twice in the first half the first a tap-in after a mistake by Lee Allen, the second a typically clinical finish.
However, Allen made some fine saves to hold the home side to two goals and when Luke Perkins was denied by the woodwork early in the second half, Badshot Lea sensed that their luck was changing.
Mark Thomas pulled it back to 2-1 and, near the hour-mark, long-serving Matt Stamp grabbed the vital equaliser.
The Row were not at their best in this half, but the Baggies fully deserved their point.
It was only Hartley Wintney’s third draw of the season – they have won 21 out of 26 games – and was a vast improvement on Badshot Lea’s last meeting with the champions back in September when they were overwhelmed 9-0.
Badshot Lea host Camberley at Ash United’s ground on Monday (ko 11.30am).
CAMBERLEY TOWN 5, FARNHAM TOWN 1
STEVE Ramsden put Farnham ahead after just four minutes on Tuesday, but Camberley were level by half-time and ran riot in the second half, scoring four times in a 20-minute spell.
Marcus Cousins equalised shortly before the interval and Farnham conceded again early in the second half, Tom McGarry putting the Krooners in front.
Matt Bunyan, Farnham’s former captain, then scored twice, the second with the help of a deflection, and Cousins wrapped up the win with his second goal.
Farnham, plagued by inconsistency this season, need to regroup fast before visiting Hartley Wintney on Monday (ko 11.30am).
