BADSHOT LEA have gone top of the Combined Counties Premier Division South after Saturday’s 2-0 win at Raynes Park Vale.

Josh Stepney and Tane Caubo scored the goals which sent the Baggies to the top of the league.

Co-manager Gavin Smith was delighted with the result, although felt his side could have played better.

“We were comfortable throughout,” he said.

“Defensively we were really strong – they didn’t threaten us.

“We expected a tough game, but didn’t feel that was the case.

“We didn’t need to play amazingly well to beat them.

“The pitch didn’t help us. They have massively improved it, but it’s still a bit bobbly in places.

“It’s another clean sheet. If we keep clean sheets I know what we’re capable of going forwards.”

Attention now turns to the FA Vase for the Baggies, with a trip to Western League Division One outfit Devizes Town in the First Qualifying Round on Saturday (3pm).

Devizes have had a poor start to the season, and are bottom of their league. Smith expects his side to progress, and is hoping for a good run in the Vase.

“The Vase is a nice distraction,” he said. “Devizes are not doing well – I expect us to beat them but we can’t underestimate them.

“It would be brilliant to go on a run in the Vase. It’s not beyond the realms of possibility if we get some favourable draws.”

Elsewhere in the Combined Counties Premier Division South on Saturday, Farnham Town picked up three points with an impressive 3-1 win at Colliers Wood United.

Nathan West gave the hosts the lead, but Farnham responded well. Josh Ogunseye equalised for the visitors, before Matt Glass scored to give Town the lead.

The hosts were reduced to ten men when Harry Murphy was sent off, and Ogunseye scored in stoppage time to make it 3-1.

Farnham will host Western League Division One side Warminster Town in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Vase on Saturday (3pm).
