BADSHOT LEA 0, FLEET SPURS 2
BADSHOT Lea are struggling to kick-start their Combined Counties League Division One season. The Baggies, relegated last season, lie 13th out of 19 after losing to Fleet Spurs at Camberley’s Krooner Park.
The experiment of playing on a Friday night boosted the attendance, but the result was not what the Baggies wanted.
Badshot Lea had much the better of the first half, while Spurs’ game-plan was disrupted by an early ankle injury to Adam Bond. Baggies physio Hannah King looked after the young right-back before he was taken to hospital.
For all their slick passing and plentiful possession, Badshot Lea lacked the finishing touch, while Fleet threw bodies at the ball in defence and Mark Appleby made some excellent saves.
The home side paid the price when Spurs struck twice in quick succession against the run of play.
On 71 minutes, a corner was only partially cleared and substitute Lloyd Kirlew scored with a close-range header from the resulting cross.
A minute later, Kirlew scored again when he took a pass from Sam Knowles and scored with a delightful 30-yard chip over keeper Mo Nyamunga.
• Frimley Green, one place below Badshot Lea and level on points, visit Krooner Park this Saturday in the second qualifying round of the FA Vase.
