AYLESBURY UTD 2, PETERSFIELD TN 6
WITH their FA Cup adventure over, Petersfield Town are making up for lost time, notching up back-to-back wins as they make rapid progress up the league table.
The Rams’ six-goal romp last Saturday left Aylesbury United propping up the Southern League Division One Central.
Some calamitous defending late on was punished mercilessly by Petersfield as they powered to a first victory on the road in the Southern League.
Glyn Creaser, in charge of his first game as permanent manager, put out a much-changed Aylesbury side and saw them fall behind after just five minutes.
The visitors should have doubled their advantage soon afterwards. Alex Przespoleski had ample space to line up a shot, but his tame effort was easily gathered by Dan Green.
At the other end, Jake Bewley set up Sonny French whose shot was deflected wide and then Lewis Osborne saw his on-target effort take a nick off a defender.
However, the Ducks were undone by Petersfield’s pace on the counter-attack and Przespoleski moved in ummarked to sweep home his fifth goal of the season; 2-0 after 32 minutes.
Aylesbury nearly reduced the deficit in lucky circumstances as Anthony Ender’s punched clearance cannoned off Jack Wood’s head and dropped onto the roof of the net.
Two minutes from the break, Ender got down well to tip Taylor Collins’ free-kick around the post.
The Ducks carried this good spell into the second half and Billy Adcock’s powerful free-kick forced an even better save from Ender. Adcock headed wastefully wide from the resulting corner.
The home fans finally had something to celebrate when Osborne was tripped inside the area and Jake Bewley’s spot kick found the bottom corner, despite Ender getting a glove to the ball.
Then came a pivotal moment in the game. An attempted clearance hit the referee, setting the visitors up for a shot that Green tipped over for a corner. The keeper punched the flag-kick against a team-mate and the ball fell to Alex Lowley who snapped up the chance.
It seemed to knock the stuffing out of Aylesbury, although Petersfield’s fourth goal was down to a goalkeeper’s howler as Green totally misjudged a long shot from Joe Briggs.
The Ducks weren’t completely out of it and, after surviving another flurry of corners, they pulled it back to 4-2 with a breakaway goal, French thumping his shot past Ender.
A minute later, the Rams added their fifth when a low ball into the box was turned in at the near post by Howard Neighbour.
Finally, the impressive Briggs escaped down the right again and delivered a telling cross for substitute Jason Norgate to head the Rams’ sixth with almost his first touch.
