SUTTON COM 0, FARNHAM TN 3
FARNHAM continued their winning sequence with a clear-cut win away to league newcomers Sutton Common Rovers last Saturday.
Town’s good play should have brought them two early goals, but they had to wait until the 40th minute to take the lead.
New signings Nick Hammett and George Spires impressed throughout the half and it was Hammett who spun his marker and used his strength to break clear before blasting the ball into the top of the net.
The second half was tougher for Farnham as Sutton enjoyed a good spell, with Richie Smith posing all sorts of problems down the left.
However, the home side’s inability to defend set-pieces cost them dear as Spires headed home from Matt Graham’s delivery to give Farnham a two-goal cushion.
Town continued to defend well, soaking up Sutton’s pressure, and with ten minutes to go, another corner resulted in their third goal, Sean Evans striking home to make quite certain of the points.
Raynes Park Vale 0, Farnham 2. Farnham climbed into mid-table with victory at Raynes Park on Tuesday. It was a fourth straight league win for Paul Tanner’s side.
It was a similar pattern to Saturday’s game as Farnham made and missed early chances. Midway through the half, a set-piece again did the trick for Town. Mark Corbett played in a free-kick and John Lancashire was there to head home an important goal.
And it was a familiar story in the second half as Raynes Park pressed hard and Farnham defended solidly, looking to strike on the counter-attack.
A late penalty clinched a second successive away victory. Lancashire was fouled inside the area and Corbett made no mistake from the spot. Two-nil, game over.
Farnham are back at the Memorial Ground this Saturday for a meeting with Windsor, five places below Town in the table. On Tuesday, Farnham visit Knaphill in the Aldershot Senior Cup.
