HEADLEY 1, FOUR MARKS 3

IN the only Hampshire Premier League Division One fixture to survive the wet weather last weekend, Four Marks deservedly took the East Hampshire bragging rights by beating lowly Headley.

On seven minutes, Martin Burt’s free-kick from just outside the area eluded everyone and found the bottom corner to put Four Marks in front.

The visitors continued to make chances and Headley keeper Lewis Smith had to be alert to beat out a first-time effort by Ashley Fooks. Soon after, Ricky Peters put a free header wide.

Headley began to assert themselves around the half-hour mark. Max Heath shot just over the bar from a free-kick and Richard McCann almost scored in a goalmouth scramble following a corner.

However, Four Marks doubled their lead just before half-time. Headley failed to clear a corner properly and Zak Faithfull stabbed the ball home.

Headley came out for the second half in determined mood, but were thwarted by Burt’s goal-line clearance and then fell further behind when Ryan Bunney beat the offside trap and calmly slotted home.

The home side kept going, though, and were rewarded on 68 minutes. A low cross reached Tom Reffell who took a couple of touches before placing his shot in the bottom corner.

James Barton denied Headley a second goal with a smart save from Ryan Evans. Soon after, Headley were convinced they should have had a penalty for a foul by Barton, but the referee waved away the appeals and Four Marks saw out the rest of the game.

Three Senior Division matches went ahead and Liphook and Clanfield both lost on the road.

Goals from Toby Hawkins and Harry Farr put Liphook two up inside eight minutes at Winchester Castle, but the home side completely turned the game around. Tom Coates-Dawkins scored all four of their goals and Liphook, after their quickfire start, were beaten 4-2.

Overton overcame a stiff challenge from Clanfield to win 3-2, with the lead changing three times. Steve Price (2) and David Parry scored for Overton, with Darren Ferguson and Matt Rowland replying for Clanfield.
